I probably sound like a broken record, but I still don’t know what to
write about. Do you guys like movies about the warpage of space and/or time? I
sure do. Within the past few weeks, I’ve seen three. My favorite movie in this
category is Time Lapse. While the
characters never actually travel through time, the plot is based of the
knowledge of events that haven’t happened yet. I like this movie because it
follows my time travel logic. My second favorite time travel movie is Project Almanac. This movie doesn’t completely
follow my time travel logic, but it is still a very interesting movie. Predestination is also a good movie. I
haven’t seen it in a while, but it has more twists than a roller coaster.
A time travel movie that isn’t exactly science fiction is Groundhog Day. This movie can be seen as
a time travel movie, but it can also be seen as a movie about parallel universes.
I highly recommend watching it, if you haven’t already.
I also like psychological thrillers. One of my favorite psychological
thrillers is Goodnight Mommy. The
title is a bit misleading, so the movie might seem lame. The beginning is a bit
slow, but the ending is fantastic. The “slow” beginning then makes sense. The Machinist is great, and Christian
Bale lost an absurd amount of weight for the role. Fight Club is a classic, and so is Primal Fear. Donnie Darko
is another psychological thriller that I enjoyed. I liked the way that
everything in the movie was revealed.
I am obviously a fan of psychological thrillers, and in high school, a
friend and I started an English class that watched and discussed them. We
watched Psycho, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Goodnight
Mommy, Misery, Memento, and Cape Fear. There are two versions of Cape Fear, and after watching both, the class unanimously agreed
that the newer version is better. Psycho
was a classic, and probably always will be. Memento
is also great, if anyone was wondering. The movie is in reverse chronological
order, but the way it is done keeps the viewers in suspense. I would talk about
these movies more, but I don’t want to spoil them.
So that’s all I have… just a few vague descriptions of movies that I
like. On a different note, I thought the peer reviewing of papers was cool. I
feel like I learned a lot about myself as a writer. I haven’t really done a peer
review before, so I now completely understand what is meant by “peer review”
and “peer edit.” There were quite a few places where I would have said
something a bit differently. It’s not that it was said wrong, or that it didn’t
sound quite right. There were just a few places that I offered suggestions as
to how I would have said it. Whether my peer changes how he said it or not, it
will still convey the same message. I’m just here to be a reader.
Cheers,
Adrian
