sunday afternoon

Greetings -

I’m once again sitting in Pavement Coffee on a Sunday afternoon trying to get work done. I really like working here because there are a lot of people so I feel pushed to be productive, but I don’t know any of them so I cannot get distracted.

When I put in my order today the cashier asked for my name so it could go on my order. When I got the receipt it said “Maiya”. I’m still confused as to why that spelling was his first reaction. My name is quite literally the easiest Indian name to spell -- it’s only 4 letters and 2 of them are the same! This happens to me all the time. I get “Maia” or “Mya” or anything but the way I actually spell it. Maybe he knows someone who spells it that way or maybe he just wanted to spice things up a bit, who knows?
