summer plans

Howdy --

The end of the semester is quickly approaching which means that summer is too. I didn’t think I would be having a super crazy summer, but things are quickly accumulating. I’m heading home after my last final, which happens to be on the last day of finals period, and just hanging out there for a bit. I’ll probably head back to work at the Indian restaurant I worked at all of senior year. I like working there because all of my friends are also employed there so no matter what, I always have a friend on the same shift. However, literally no other school gets out as early as us so I’ll probably be working with a bunch of high schoolers I don’t know for the first few weeks. But the money is good so I can’t really complain. Some time in May I’ll be going to India with my mom and brother to see family and check in on a project my mom is doing. I haven’t been back in a couple years so it should be a fun time and I’ll get to see my family members that I don’t see very often. After that, I head to Ghana on a dialogue for a month. The dialogue focuses on health systems so we will be touring hospitals, clinics, and medical schools around Ghana and learning about their healthcare system. It takes 2 classes off of my global health minor which is a huge help. I’m psyched to go because I’ve never been anywhere in Africa before but have always wanted to. I only know one other person who is going on the dialogue but I’ve met the other people in my TA group and they all seem very nice and I’m sure we’ll get to know each other well. After Ghana, it’s back to Lexington for the rest of the summer. Unless my best friend and I end up doing that road trip. We were thinking of just doing a quick one down to DC or something because it turns out that we only have 4 overlapping weeks this summer! Throughout our friendship we’ve never shared summers together because she’s always been at camp, but last summer we finally got to. After graduation we took a month-long trip through Europe with our two other friends and she was around Lexington for a bit after that. It’s kind of weird to think that my friends will be scattered around this summer, with internships and summer programs and all that. I personally am not a big fan of the suburbs so this will likely be the last summer I spend mostly living at home so I really hope some of my other friends will be around but again, it’s so hard to track people down. As boring as the suburbs are, we had a blast last summer and it would be sad if that was our last summer all together in one place. We would go to Walden Pond and out to the beach or come in to Boston in the nights and it was definitely one of the best summers I’ve ever had. But next year I’ll be on co-op for half of it and probably taking classes for the other half so there goes my free summers. Hopefully this one is a good one!

Yeehaw,
Maya
