Hello everyone! I have
some exciting news today. In fact, two pieces of exciting news. The first—that I
have a functional laptop again! I have spent the last week without a laptop,
which was stressful to say the least, but all is well once more. Interestingly,
nothing was wrong with my laptop at all, but it just stopped charging one day.
I’d fairly quickly narrowed it down to a broken laptop or charger, but as I have
a somewhat obscure Lenovo, nobody I know had a charger I could borrow to test
what the problem was. Amazon Prime fixed that in four business days (so much
for 2 day shipping), so today my laptop is happily charging itself, and I am
happily returning the semi-functional Dell I was checking out every 24 hours
from the library.
However, that’s not all the good news I have
today. As many of you may be aware, registration for Fall 2019 classes is this
week. I had my registration slot today, and am happy to announce that I am
taking my very first course (outside of this one) that isn’t a science or business
class. That’s right, I’m finally going to be taking my nucore (that’s the precursor
to nupath) electives! I’ve been saving them for years, since I figured I’d probably
be taking nothing but 4000 and 5000 level science classes next year and might appreciate
a little bit of a buffer.
Knowing that I’m finally taking a class that
wasn’t in any way shape or form chosen for me (even my major classes have been selected
from a short list) is even more exciting than I was expecting. I’ve registered
myself for a philosophy class for the fun of it, and it almost felt like I was
doing something forbidden. A course not in CoS or D’Amore-McKim? Absurd. I might
still be reeling folks, I’m not gonna lie.
I’m well aware that this is pretty unusual.
Most students take a random class or two for fun or to fill their schedules at
some point, but I planned out my schedule so carefully as a freshman that I
somehow skipped that step. I’ve had friends sending me recommendations for
classes all day—everything from History of Espionage to Photography to a course
called The Meaning of Death. This might be a really weird thing to get this
excited about, but I literally felt like a kid in a candy store, looking around
at all the options and pretty colors and not even knowing where to start.
I hope everyone else
has a good time registering for fall courses—or at least that you manage to get
into the classes and sections you have you eyes on!!
