I
am not a huge fan of coffee. I do not like the taste and have never really felt
super awake after drinking it. However, I think it is one of those things that provides
stimulation mentally rather physically. You have to buy into coffee in order to
reap the benefits. As with many things that I am not a fan of, I avoid drinking
coffee at all costs. That is, until recently. I have found it to be increasingly
difficult to wake up for my 8 am class on Tuesdays and Fridays. This being
said, coffee was not the first thing I turned to. I tried waking up earlier,
eating breakfast or working out beforehand, even going for a brisk morning walk
to try and wake myself up before having to sit in a long class first thing on a
Friday, Tuesday too but that’s less important. It was recently suggested to me that
I drink coffee before my earlier classes so that I can be awake during the
class period. I decided that if I am to drink coffee, I’m going to do it on my
own terms. So, I went out, to Wollaston’s, and bought this triple chocolate latte
coffee drink that is made by Starbucks. My big concern was that I’d be able to
taste the coffee- which is something that I do not like. I drank the drink and found
that it did not really taste like coffee- so I was sold.
I soon discovered that it was not
really doing anything for me. I was still tired in my early classes and was not
gaining any benefit other than being able to drink a chocolatey drink in the
morning. I was determined to be alert in my classes so I decided to buy into
coffee and start believing that it could actually work for me. It did not work
and so I’m now back to square one. I still get the drink from time to time because
I like how it tastes but since it is limited edition, I do not know how much
longer I will be able to drink them for. My next idea is to try and go to the
dining hall early so that I can shock my system awake with all the noise and smells
of breakfast foods. Hopefully, this will allow me to be more awake and alert in my
early classes.
