Today I had service learning at O’Bryant. It was my second service learning session. Compared to the first one, I think it was pretty good. Last week, we were just helping the kids brainstorm ideas and what they want to say in the essay. It is better for the kids to say their ideas out loud instead of keeping them in their head. This week, the kids wrote their thesis statements and we were asked to help revise them and answer any questions on them if the kids had any. Not going to lie, this was pretty hard. This was because the kids still didn’t know what they wanted to write about so therefore their thesis statements made no sense, making it hard to revise. Since I still didn’t know what they wanted to argue about I was struggling with how to edit their thesis statements. There was this one girl who was writing about whether or not the American dream was possible and the only reason was that if they try hard enough, anything is possible. This was a hard thesis statement to revise because there was nothing signaling what they were arguing about and what they supporting details she was going to use. When I asked her what example from the book you are using, she said she didn’t know. So in summary, today was a pretty tough tutoring day. After tutoring that class, there was a free period, so we just filed papers into the google doc of the student info. It was very straightforward and easy. The rest of my day was pretty average. I had a break in between service learning and my next class, so I took a good nap. I then had bio lab. It was a pretty long lab. There was a lot of work to be done, but it was manageable. I was supposed to have chem lab directly after bio lab, but it was canceled due to the snow. When I got the notice, I was quite content and enthusiastic. So with my free time, I just studied some more, ate, and hung out with friends. Today was a quite easy day, but usually, I’m extremely busy. Over the past two weeks, I’ve probably had an average of 4 hours of sleep a day. I’m just really overloaded right now with classes and extracurriculars. I just recently had a midterm last Thursday on chemistry. I found out my grade today. I was extremely content about that too. I tried really hard on that and I guess my hard work paid off. I guess the most exciting thing about my week was the weekend. I didn’t really do anything that special, but it was just the fact that I actually got sleep during those days felt really good. I also got to hangout with friends and just relax with them, play a few games, eat, joke around. The weekend is where I feel I’m having the most fun. It’s just really laid back and chill.
