I’d like to think I’m a creature of habit. Routines and certainty have always been really comforting to me because it’s one less thing I have to think about. I’m a really indecisive person so having a set routine means less things to decide and less stress for me. In high school, my best friend and I would go to the town library every Sunday from 1-5pm and do our homework. It was probably the best habit I picked up in high school because it solidified Sunday afternoons as study time in my brain. Now, I’ve started a new habit. I had a little bit of trouble getting into a routine first semester but I really feel like I’ve hit my stride this semester, mostly because my schedule is so crazy now that if I didn’t have a routine I would probably just implode. I’ve started going to Pavement Coffee every Sunday and getting my work done as far ahead for the week as possible. This is why all of my blog posts talk about being here -- I swear I’m not doing sponsored content or anything. There’s absolutely no way I’m going to get work done from the time classes end on Friday afternoon until Saturday night so that leaves Sunday as my homework day. I usually wake up around 11am, shower, and head over to Pavement, where I order the same thing: an iced chai with oat milk and a sandwich. Today I decided to switch it up and order a regular drink instead of a small and as insignificant as it may seem, I feel like it threw me off a little bit.
Today I have a ton of work to do because this is a crazy week. I’m going to the Jpegmafia show at Afterhours tonight, the Beanpot final tomorrow (and our intramural volleyball team’s first game if I make it back in time), the Beirut concert at the House of Blues on Tuesday, and the Live Music Association show at Afterhours on Wednesday. But I can’t really complain because I committed to all of them. So I guess this week is just going to be an absolute grind and there’s nothing I can do about it. On the bright side, next weekend is a long weekend so I’ll have an extra day to relax and catch up on all the rest I’m sure I’ll be missing out on this week.
In other exciting news because I have more words left, I got pierced on Friday night! I already have my ears and nose pierced but piercings and tattoos are kind of addicting so I wanted another. My friend and I were bored on Friday night so I decided to just go for it and get a second ear piercing. I called my mum to tell her and she, being the absolute coolest, was totally fine with it. Although, I suppose she should be used to it at this point. I got my nose pierced in India without telling them and got a tattoo as soon as I turned 18 but luckily, my parents don’t really care about that kind of thing. Both my brothers also have multiple piercings and tattoos and that kind of thing and I’m very grateful our parents are so chill about it.
So long, space cowboy,
Maya
