yay for the Pats!

I have so much homework this week that I have no clue what to write about in this blog. I guess I can brag about the Patriots winning the Super Bowl, even though I am pretty sure Professor Stockman is going to hate having to read this. To be honest, I was disappointed by the game. Don’t get me wrong I am ecstatic we won, but the game was so boring. I guess I am just comparing them to the last two Super Bowls we won (the 25 point comeback against the Falcons and the last second interception against the Seahawks). The game that truly decided the champion was the AFC championships. After watching the Saints lose to the Rams, I honestly believed that the winner of the Chiefs-Patriots game was going to win the Super Bowl. If the Saints had won (and they deserved to), I believe that the Super Bowl would have been much more entertaining, even if we lose (which would be impossible with Tom Brady). In the end though, despite all my complaining, I do far prefer a boring game we win over an interesting game we lose.
To continue rambling, I’ll discuss the AFC Championship game against the Chiefs. I am sorry Professor; I am not doing this to brag, but mainly because the Patriots winning is the most interesting event that has happened to me in the past week. That game was thrilling. It began when we started the game with a fourteen to nail lead. I was disappointed that we did not score twenty-one points in the first half because we threw an interception in the red zone. That play came back to haunt us, as the game became too close further on. Eventually it came down to a few close calls with Julien Edelman (my favorite player) almost fumbling the football, and Brady throwing an interception that got overturned due to a penalty. Within two minutes, the best quarterback that has ever played football enter the field while we are down four points. Without using any of our three timeouts, Brady creates a beautiful touchdown drive, as he usually does. Somehow, heroically, the Chiefs manage to get down the field and score a field goal, sending the game to overtime.

This is where the ending of the game becomes controversial. We won the coin toss and elected to receive the ball first. We went on to score a touchdown on that drive, sending us to yet another Super Bowl. After much thought, I have concluded that there existed some unfairness in this victory, and not because of anything anyone did, but because of the rules. I have heard many people say that the Patriots only won because of the coin toss and that if the Chiefs had won it, then they would have defeated us. Whether or not that is true, the Chiefs never truly had an opportunity to win. They fought hard to get us to overtime, and then once they did, they instantly lost because of a fifty-fifty chance. It is fair to say that to win, one must be able to hold on defense, but we did not have to do that. I am extremely happy we won, but I am just trying to recognize that our chances to win were not equal in overtime. We were somewhat gifted with the victory because that game was so offensively dominant, that whoever got to drive first would probably win. In the end, I am ecstatic that we were that team.
