Last week was
pretty chill. I went and did my time at O’Bryant which is always interesting. I
have not had a particularly bad experience there yet, but I still am not
excited to go. This is probably because it’s something that I do against my will
and its early in the morning on my day off of classes. The school has a lot of
cool things going on and 826 seems like a great program that offers good help
to the kids who want it. This being said, it can be hard to volunteer there. I
find that I end up feeling stuck between being a student myself and being a
volunteer that is there to help them with their writing. I am not particularly
great at writing and often find myself trying to remember various grammar or
writing rules from high school to help coach them. I barely know these “rules”
and I’m having to teach them or remind them to someone else. The hardest part
for me is the citations. I don’t know much when it comes to figuring out how to
cite a source- I only kind of know MLA. I have discovered that the questions I’m
asked the most have to do with citations. Long story short- I don’t have much
to complain about, but I will because I want to.
