Blog #9

Last week was pretty chill. I went and did my time at O’Bryant which is always interesting. I have not had a particularly bad experience there yet, but I still am not excited to go. This is probably because it’s something that I do against my will and its early in the morning on my day off of classes. The school has a lot of cool things going on and 826 seems like a great program that offers good help to the kids who want it. This being said, it can be hard to volunteer there. I find that I end up feeling stuck between being a student myself and being a volunteer that is there to help them with their writing. I am not particularly great at writing and often find myself trying to remember various grammar or writing rules from high school to help coach them. I barely know these “rules” and I’m having to teach them or remind them to someone else. The hardest part for me is the citations. I don’t know much when it comes to figuring out how to cite a source- I only kind of know MLA. I have discovered that the questions I’m asked the most have to do with citations. Long story short- I don’t have much to complain about, but I will because I want to.
I don’t know what else I should write about so I’m just going to ramble on. Last week I went to urgent care once again because I got kneed in the head at practice and made the mistake of telling my mom. She basically forced me to go to the doctors to make sure that I didn’t have a concussion- plot twist I didn’t. I was diagnosed with a scalp contusion and am fine now. However, this meant that I had to sit out a rugby practice last week and a tournament this past weekend. Normally I’d be sad but since it was St. Patrick’s Day weekend I was fine having to sit out. Instead of playing rugby/hurting people/being hurt, I got to spend time with some friends and ended up getting a lot of homework done which was nice for a change. I also received some good news in the form of one of my classes being canceled on Tuesday and finding out that there’s only three more in class meetings for another one of my classes. I have also recently discovered how broke I am, not super surprised but still shook. I have figured out that it is better for me to take my money out in cash rather than keep it in my account to be used by my debit card, that way I am less tempted to buy the stuff I want. I mostly just want to buy food but lately have been having to have the “we have food at home” conversation with myself. I’m excited to go on co-op so I can buy whatever food I want and am not limited to the dining halls.
