Big and maybe uncomfortable topic for some people but I feel the need to express some opinions about it. Eating can be a difficult task for many people obviously, not just in the amount necessarily but also in what to eat and the proportions. Some people also just don't think about it at all, which is probably not that healthy to be honest but I imagine more freeing. The task of eating healthy can become an obsession for certain people but many people immediately stigmatize and make fun of people who eat healthy and think that if you eat healthy then you are either a health fanatic or just anorexic. Neither of those have to be true. Just because a person does not eat much in front of you or seems to exercise a lot, it does not mean they have an eating disorder. I used to be quite plagued by what and how much I was supposed to eat and I'm still trying to figure out. Balancing with proper exercise is even harder. But I found that if I watch what I eat rather than how much it usually does not go so bad. Trying to get all the right nutrients and minerals usually will leave you satisfied if you do it in combination with hydration and exercise. Hydrating is what I'm trying to get better at though.
I am also trying to be eating more sustainably for the environment. I recently started eating vegan two days a week and vegetarian two days a week in order to decrease the amount of animal products I consume, because those are the most harmful to the environment. Especially cow meat. Which is a shame because it is quite healthy. So there is definitely a dilemma there for me. But my sister recently told me that if cows were fed with seaweed rather than hay, then the methane problem would greatly decrease. I mean we could also just ask the cows to stop farting and hold it in but what can you do. Just give em some frickin' seaweed. But the bigger problem is the amount of water a needed to provide the immense amounts of beef and steak most people demand. 1790 gallons of water is required to produce just one pound of beef. Pork is about half of that at 576 gallons and poultry is way less but still a significant amount. Poultry however takes a significant amount of less water due to body size and their ability to convert food into body mass.
Besides this weekly program I simply just try to get organic foods, preferably no palm oil ingredients and with high fiber content.
One last thing, the whole not eating honey thing for vegans I think is kind of sad and I don't do it because I think its good to promote bee farms because they are important for pollination and biodiversity in an ecosystem. But it has a higher glycemic index than most sugars so I usually go for grade A Robust Maple syrup (GI 54) or medjool dates(GI 46) or coconut sugar(GI 35).
